Even though I left in December to start my graduate work
at Austin, Dínamo kept playing. But if we had finished
last season with only six players, now, with my departure
and Armando's retirement forced the team to get ex-Atlantistas
Gordo (2nd season in our team), and Francisco Núñez (Paco).
Among the ones returning were Chendo (12th season),
Juan (8th season), Ferna (2nd season), and Miguel (2nd season). We started out terribly, losing our first four games pretty bad. After wining the next two matches, Dínamo ended the first half with another loss against Leones and finished the first half practically out of contention. As if this team didn't have enough excitement last season, they resurged from the cold basement, and played a great second half including an astonishing come-from-behind 3-2 victory over first place Italia with three goals in the last five minutes. Dínamo really turned it around. Still, things were not looking good, since they arrived to the last game of the season needing to win to clinch a playoff berth and with Chendo out for the season due to an ankle injury. Paco and Miguel were not at full capacity either due to injuries too, and Ferna, the goalkeeper didn't show up. The only good news was the arrival of Roger who came from Austin right in time to play the match (he was still in the roster). What a match! But Dínamo did it again with an incredible and dramatic 3-2 victory over Bohemios. In the semi-final, we had to meet again top ranked Italia, with a set of players that look more like a hospital rather than a football team. But this team pulled out the Champion heart and gave one of its guttiest performances ever to knock Italia out in a heck of a thriller 3-2. We completed our master piece with another exciting and dramatic 2-1 victory over Leones to give our fifth Olympic lap at the UDA gym between the cheers and the tears of our fans. It was hard to describe, but that was just fantastic. For those ex-Atlantistas, Gordo and Francisco, it was their first title ever. Even though they played in one of the finest teams ever to play in this league, they had not been fortunate enough to win a title. They did it now as members of this amazing Dínamo squad. At that point, with so much joy in our hearts, we decided not to continue the adventure. It was the end of an era for one of the most talented and spectacular teams ever assembled. At least for now. It was a great Summer for me, and returned to Austin afterwards to resume my graduate work. We hope to reunite some day. Will we?
