Comments: This was the first time that I played in a co-ed team. My wife, Ofelia, was in the team too so it was a great experience for both of us. Regular season competition was tough, but the team showed character and spirit. The critical game was when we faced the group leader, Token Opposition. After falling behind 0-2 and playing with only nine on the field, we made a courageous second half effort and reached a dramatic 2-2 draw in a very exciting match. That moment I knew this team was for real. We made it to the playoffs and had three exceptional thrillers, including an unforgettable penalty shoot-out in the quarter-finals, before falling in the semi-final match-up. The season was over, but not our enthusiasm to come back the following year.

Comments: This was another extraordinary season. Even though we lost one game in the regular season, we still looked a very strong contender. We made it to the playoffs and were tested in the Round of 16 when we faced defending champion and undefeated in 2 years, Resurrection. It was a heck of a thriller. Dínamo came up with a dramatic 1-0 victory and the King had died. We crushed right to the semi-finals, where again, met our fate. Another exciting match that ended dramatically with a 1-1 tie. This time, the penalty shoot-out killed our hopes and our rival would eventually grab the title a week later.

Comments: This time, we were just playing even better. Our first match was against 1994 League Champion, the team we eliminated last year in the Round of 16, Outta Here (formerly known as Resurrection). We just played like a football machine and crushed them 3-0 in a very intense game. We won all of our games, including the 1st round playoff. The Round of 16 playoff was a top-notch match between two of the best teams in the league. The W.C. Zapatistas jumped into an early 1-0 lead. In the second half, we took control of the game launching a ferocious attack. We turned the score around and took the lead 2-1. However, in the final moments, our rival had a unbelieveable break in a very unfortunate play for us and equalized 2-2. Then it came the always dramatic shoot-out, and bit the dust 2-3 to end our season.

Comments: It was the last chance, and Dinamo came through. The last Dinamo's season was very inspiring for all of us. We played with great heart, keeping the same amazing team from last semester and showing we deserved to be Number One. We played great defense, and spectacular offense, with Dondi making awesome goals up there. In top of that, we took revenge by defeating the two-time defending champ, Dave's Team, not once but twice. The last one, right in the final in one of our best performances ever. Most of us would graduate between May and August, but the memories will always be in our hearts.
21 April 1997 Hey Guys and Gals! I just want to take this opportunity to express my most sincere gratitude to each one of you for having made my coed soccer experience a VERY pleasant one. Now that graduation is close (for me) I will start a new stage in my life; nonetheless, all these years that I had the HONOR of playing with such a great team will stay with me forever...THANKS!! Well, we finally made it! This is as good as it gets. Consider yourself as being part of The University of Texas' history. We have done our deed, we have left our legacy on the walls of Gregory Gym and because of that I thank all of you guys!!!! -------------------------------------- !!!!!!!97' TEXAS CUP Co-ed CHAMPIONS!! -------------------------------------- Now, I can finally go on with my life..........:) !Arriba Dinamo! 21 April 1997 Congratulations everyone! Ditto what German said. No really, it was a great experience to play on a team full of team players rather than a team full of individuals. It was nice to be able to rely on everyone on the field in full confidence that everyone was putting forth maximum effort. Also, although everyone deserves thanks and praise, a special thank you needs to go out to Roger. He organized just about everything even while raising a family and pursuing a doctorate. And he had the patience to put up with me, the unofficial firebrand of the team. Also, congratulations to everyone finishing up their degrees this year and good luck to those who are not quite there yet. I hope to see you all at the party. Thanks for the great memories. Andy
21 April 1997 At first, I was a little hesitant to join a coed soccer team, but since a guy named Roger put forth the effort to call me and ask me to play with his team, I decided to give it a shot. And that's all it took! After one practice I was sure this was a team I wanted to be a part of. It took me a while to remember everones names and get used to the relaxed but intensive playing style, but by the end of the season I truly felt like a member of Dinamo. Some games were tough and some games easy (forfeits), some games were hot and some games cold, but all the game had one thing in common: they were fun! I will miss the encouragment, smiles, laughs and experiences everyone gave me; I consider myself very lucky to have been able to have joined Dinamo and wish I could have been with the team longer. I would like to thank the whole team for including me as your teammate, and a special thanks to Roger for being such a good coordinator and setting up an awesome web page just for Dinamo!!! I wish everone good luck in the future, and succes with soccer! Congratulations on your success Dinamo! Your friend, Heather Doty =)
Austin, Tx. May 2, 1997 Dear DINAMO: I want to express my gratitude for let me be part of this great, great team. When I came to Austin I never thought that I will be part of a soccer team in an official tournament, and that WE will become THE Texas Soccer Cup Champion! Soon, I will leave Austin, and Dinamo will be in my past. But all the memories, all the happiness, and all the great moments that I spent with all and every one of you, in the game and outside the field, will be deep inside my heart. I must thank especially to Roger, the one that put this fantastic team togheter. I will never forget our top scorer, Dondi, and her beautiful goal hitting the ball with her head (and the rest of her goals too! well, almost all of them, I lost the account). Or German and Roger, unbeated in the back and scoring some goals in the front. Or Linda, Heather, and Elizabeth, stopping the other team's advance. Or Ofelia, Kate, Rene, and Oscar being a nightmare for the other team's defense and being rewarded with many goals. Or Glen and his hardwork serving and scoring. Or Andy as goalkeeper that... well, without too much work thanks to our defense. Or Sufian in the final, also as goalkeeper, taking sunbaths as our team scored some goals. Now I can go back to my country and say: "You know, back to the days during my grad school in Texas, I was part of a great coed soccer team, excellent players all of them, and we were CHAMPIONS. What a happy day, what a happy memory," and probably an unsuspected, shy tear will roll down my cheek. God Bless you! VIVA DINAMO! Raul Sergio Gonzalez Ramirez Raul S. Gonzalez R. 27 May 1997 Since I first started playing soccer, at the age of 13, the game has held a special attraction for me. The enjoyment comes from running around, getting a good workout and working together with team members to successfully score goals and prevent the other team from doing so. My experience with dinamo was special for many reasons. To start with, as a female athlete, I have had both good and bad experiences playing on co-ed teams. Dinamo was once of my best experiences ever. Not only did I get to play soccer, but I had an opportunity to meet a wonderful group of people and to participate in a social activity. Due to my crazy commute schedule, my experience in Austin was largely limited to working long days on school related matters. Playing soccer with dinamo was one of my few social outlets while in Austin. And I couldn't have asked for a better group of folks to play with. Everyone participated, everyone supported one another and everyone enjoyed playing soccer. I have an intuition about dinamo. I feel that the friendships forged on the soccer field amongst dinamo team members are the kinds of friendships that last forever. While we may all go our separate ways and may not see each other for a long, long time, something tells me that if, and when, any of us cross paths with other dinamo team members in different settings many years from now, the bonds of friendship will still exist. I look forward to these encounters and I want you all to know that you have a special place in my heart. Love, Kate
